Teeth Whitening

  • Immediate Effect: Teeth are more porous and sensitive for 24–48 hours β€” this is normal.
  • Normal Reactions: Mild sensitivity, quick β€œzingers”, slight gum tenderness β€” usually fades within 1–2 days.
  • First 24 Hours β€” β€œWhite Diet”: Avoid anything that can stain the enamel.
  • Avoid: Coffee, tea, wine, soda, dark juices, chocolate, berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce, mustard, ketchup, turmeric/curry, beets.
  • Safe Options: Chicken, turkey, rice, cauliflower, bread, pasta with white sauce, milk, water, clear beverages.
  • Tip: If it can stain a white shirt β€” skip it.
  • Sensitivity Relief: Use sensitivity toothpaste (Sensodyne/Pronamel), soft-bristle brush, lukewarm water, avoid hot or cold foods.
  • 24–48 Hours: Slowly reintroduce normal foods while staying mindful of staining items.
  • Advice: If you drink coffee or tea, use a straw and rinse or brush afterward.
  • Smoking/Vaping: Can re-stain quickly β€” avoid if possible.
  • Gum Care: If tender, avoid spicy foods & alcohol-based mouthwash. Rinse with warm salt water if needed (gently). Healing within 24 hours is normal.
  • Maintaining Results: Whitening results last 3–6 months depending on lifestyle.
  • For Best Results: Brush twice daily, floss daily, use whitening toothpaste 2–3Γ—/week.
  • Stain Prevention: Use a straw for staining beverages, use whitening pen if recommended.
  • Maintenance: Professional touch-ups every 3–6 months.
